Bible Verses for Husbands
The New Testament’s word to husbands is to love as Christ loved the church: by giving himself up for her. These passages set that pattern before you.
When to say them. Say them in the morning, before you come home, and when you have been harsh.
6 passages to memorize
- Ephesians 5:25–27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.
An example of praying it: Lord Jesus, you loved the church and gave yourself up for her. Teach me to love my wife like that: giving myself up for her, not waiting to be served. Let the way I love her help her toward holiness, as your love does for your church. - Ephesians 5:28–30 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. Indeed, no one ever hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church. For we are members of His body.
- 1 Peter 3:7 Husbands, in the same way, treat your wives with consideration as a delicate vessel, and with honor as fellow heirs of the gracious gift of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
- Colossians 3:19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
- Proverbs 18:22 He who finds a wife finds a good thingand obtains favor from the LORD.
- Proverbs 31:28–29 Her children rise up and call her blessed;her husband praises her as well:“Many daughters have done noble things, but you surpass them all!”
