Do Christians have to follow Old Testament laws? Which ones and why?
No—Christians are not under the Old Testament (Mosaic) law as a covenant. We follow Jesus under the new covenant, while still treating the Old Testament as God’s Word that teaches, warns, and points to Christ.
- Romans 6:1–14 What then shall we say? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may increase? Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer? Or aren’t you aware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefor…
- Matthew 5:17–20 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them. For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everythi…
- Hebrews 10:1–18 For the law is only a shadow of the good things to come, not the realities themselves. It can never, by the same sacrifices offered year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship . If it could, would not the offerings have ceased? For the worshi…
Is the Bible reliable? How do we know the Bible is true?
Yes—the Bible is reliable because Jesus treated it as God’s Word, it is faithfully preserved and consistent, and it proves true as it leads people to God.
- 2 Timothy 3:16–17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.
- 2 Peter 1:20–21 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation. For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
- Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Does God still speak today?
Yes. God still speaks today—most clearly and reliably through the Bible—and the Holy Spirit helps believers understand, obey, and be guided in ways that never contradict Scripture.
